Hit for Haiti

What in incredibly fun match. Showed how much Roger hates to lose, even if it's for kicks.

It was the first time center court at Indian Wells had sold out for an evening match. To celebrate Tony Bennett sang at the end of the exhibition.

The first match was Navritalova and Henin vs. Graf and Davenport. They were all mic'ed and Navritalova took advantage to show her silly side. It was one set, no ad scoring ("whatever that is," said Roger).

The second match was Agassi and Nadal vs. Federer and Sampras. At one point Agassi goaded Nadal, saying that all of them were fathers so when was he going to have a baby? Nadal said, "I'm 23!"

Roger Federer was formally recognized for his triumphant return to the top spot in men’s tennis on Wednesday [2/17/2010], as the 2009 ATP World Tour Awards were announced.

The 28-year-old superstar collected Player of the Year, the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award and ATPWorldTour.com Fans' Favorite Player of the Year presented by RICOH honors. Federer was named Player of the Year for the fifth time after finishing as ATP World Tour Champion and his fellow players voted him with the sportsmanship award for a record sixth consecutive year, surpassing Edberg, who was a five-time recipient over eight years. In a poll of fans, Federer was voted ATPWorldTour.com Fans' Favorite for the seventh straight season.

Roger gets emotional in Ethiopia

Roger just hit up Ethiopia to see what his charity's been up to down there.

From Facebook:

"Here is a shot from today when I visited the project i support in Ethiopia. It was touching to see the impact my foundation has had on the lives of these kids. I had a great time."

"Here is another picture. Ethiopia was a beautiful country and the people were so kind and gentle."

There's also a video about it on the ATP website but it's in Flash and can't be linked. Will keep an eye out.

Roger with the girls

The Federers! And Roger's dad even took this picture.

Clockwise from left: Mirka, Roger, Charlene Riva & Myla Rose (girls could be reversed, they are twins after all).

Roger wins the 2010 Australian Open

Roger defeated Andy Murray in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(11). The most exciting part was the third set tiebreak because it was the only part where Murray wasn't thoroughly trounced. Afterward Murray commented, "I can cry like Roger but I can't play like him." Then he drowned his sorrows in Dungeons and Dragons while Britain tried not to dissolve into one large puddle of tears.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the day.

2010 Australian Open in Review (countown to Final)

My Top 10 Moments

10. James Blake making it to the 3rd Round! Looks like he's getting his head in order. (J-Block for life!)

9. Andy Roddick making it to a the Quarters and cussing out a chair ump along the way.

8. John Isner, ranking #2 in America, making it to the 3rd Round. Go, big man, go!

7. Maria Sharapova out in the 1st Round to Maria Kirilenko.

6. Roger's rout of Tsonga in the Semi-Final, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2, in less than an hour and a half.

5. Kim Clijsters demolished by Nadia Petrova in the 3rd Round and then admitting she played like crap.

4. Andy Murray, the hope of Britain, reaching the AO Final.

3. Roger Federer's 23rd consecutive Grand Slam Semi-Final appearance.

2. Justine Henin's epic return and ride to the Final where she lost in 3 sets to Serena Williams.

1. Davydenko destroying Roger in the Semi-Final in the first 1.5 sets and then getting spanked the rest of the way. The world went cross-eyed.

Honorable mention - Santoro plays his last match extending his career over 4 decades.
